Creating Tomorrow's Leaders
Sass For Girls
Our Staff
Sass For Girls is run by three UCT students who give selflessly of their time to change the lives of girls at Langa High School. They are all intelligent, have ample experience and are well equipped to handle the task of running a non-profit organisation.
Ayanda Nxusani
Initially when I joined SASS I thought here is a great way to “give back” to “the people”, I would be seen as being “selfless” and even considered a Good Samaritan. I did not really see myself being involved in the daily lives of young teenage girls and being concerned with their wellbeing. I figured I would impart my wisdom on young girls and help usher them into success and go about my own way.
Having had the privilege of being part of such an amazing project has been life changing. It has shifted from merely “giving back” to faceless people but rather has been an opportunity for me to impact and be impacted. Being part of a program that seeks to empower and help shape young minds has been phenomenal. I have continued with SASS because I understand the need to steward young girls to believe that they are “powerful beyond measure” and that with correct guidance and mentorship they are able to be most effective in the fields and sectors they find themselves in.
Ayanda holds a BA degree in Politics, International Relations and Economic History.
Kutlwano Radebe
I saw a gap in the mentorship of young girls in South Africa so I decided to take matters into my own hands and start my own organisation. I believe that building someone's self image is an important task and this forms the basis of our organisation.
Although studying mechanical engineering, I have always had an interest in education and psychology. Sass combines my strengths and I am able to give back in a very positive way. I struggled quite a bit in my earlier years and having been able to overcome my own life challenges, I am able to empower others to do the same.
I see great potential in all the girls we work with and I have no doubt that Sass For Girls is making a real difference in their lives.
Kutlwano is currently pursuing a BSc Mechanical Engineering degree at UCT.
Khanya Funde
Born in the Eastern Cape, Port Elizabeth, I'm nothing short of a product of hard work and determination of a pastor and teacher parents. Growing up , I have always been a social kid, and now I'm just a bigger kid with an even bigger social interest. This is what has led to my passion for SASS.
What makes me tick is too see youth realizing that by them exploring and using the potential that lies within them , they not only empower themselves , but empower their family, community , nation and our beloved continent AFRICA.
I believe that the youth of today if properly inspired, motivated and trained , Africa will explode with opportunity and greatness.
Khanya is in the final year of her BSocSci Public Pollicy Administration and Religion degree at UCT.
